Needles are inserted using a small plastic insertion tube into pre-determined locations on your body by our Acupuncturist. Each point will have been swabbed with an alcohol wipe to sanitize the spot.
Fire Cupping or Sliding Cupping may be incorporated into your treatment. This is using round glass cups to suction or glide over areas where painful muscles are causing pain in your body.
Moxibustion may also be explained and a moxa stick sent home with you to use as “Homework” before your follow-up treatment.
Acupuncture Treatment (steps of the appointment)
The Initial Exam with treatment will be approximately a 90 minute commitment of your time.
Once your intake form(s) are completed, you will be welcomed by our Acupuncturist and the two of you will sit down to discuss a number of questions relating to your health history, habits, lifestyle and food cravings. All of these questions help our Acupuncturist understand where the imbalances are in your body and constitution that are contributing to your pain.
The last part of the consultation, before your treatment actually begins, will involve taking your pulses (yes, plural…Chinese medicine accounts for 3 pulses 3 levels deep on each wrist) and examining your tongue. This will allow our Acupuncturist to put a treatment plan together, customized to your specific needs.
Locations will be swabbed w/ alcohol to sanitize the site(s) that sterile needles will be inserted. The needles are usually retained for 20 minutes.
You may experience a reduction in your symptoms in one treatment, however we highly recommend a minimum of 5 treatments to ensure that all imbalances have been addressed. Follow-up treatments generally are a 30-45 minute time commitment.
